Im Februar waren Martina und ich ja auf der LIFT-Konferenz (alle Beiträge, Konferenz-Website). Einer der prägendsten Eindrücke war die schiere Menge an Bloggern, die live von Konferenz berichteten und etwa ein Viertel des Publikums ausmachten. Damals bekamen wir eine Vorstellung davon, wie wichtig diese ganze Idee des Grass-Root-Blogging-is-the-real-Journalism-Bla-Bla wirklich ist.

Nun hat aber der Gründer von LIFT, Laurent Haug, anscheinend genug von den Blog-Journalisten, die seiner Meinung nach keinen Mehrwert stiften und die Berichterstattung nur unnötig fragmentieren.

I remember blogging all I could during Reboot7 so my buddies could benefit from the wisdom I was getting. Then blogging got even bigger, and any conference was getting blogged, reblogged and re-reblogged. Where is the value of 30 people reposting the same SubEthaEdit notes to their blog? Nowhere. So this time I was happy to see some “running notes leaders” emerge, most notably Bruno Giussani. The guy is a professional journalist and makes so good notes that it’s useless to compete. Just listen to the presentation and link to him afterwards. The whole debate gets less fragmented. I’m happy.

Außerdem ist ihm aufgefallen, dass er selbst viel weniger von einer Konferenz hat, wenn er alles live mitbloggt. Deswegen möchte er die No-Laptop-Zone bei der nächsten LIFT ausweiten.

Laptops are like attention black holes. My whole experience of a conference depends on the care I am giving the person who is speaking. Why? Because, except for Ben Hammersley and his one-joke-every-twenty-seconds rhythm, conferences like reboot or LIFT are about constructed demonstrations, long arguments, complicated thought processes. If you miss a step you will miss the point. So one small interruption via email of instant messaging can get you off the path of the presentation, and get you lost. Sometimes exposing a killer idea demands to lay some less interesting foundations. If at the first sign of boredom you launch your email, you will miss it. I will push for us to expand the no laptop zone at LIFT07.
